How Digitally Restored Reviews Products

Doug Porter, Founder & Editor-in-Chief
This page lays out how I source, weigh, and present the guidance you'll find across this site.

What this site does

Digitally Restored is an editorial operation built on more than a decade of watching the restoration market evolve — from consumer flatbeds to pro film scanners, shareware to subscription AI tools. My job is to cut through the marketing noise and give you the honest, research-backed signal: what actually works for the person trying to save a box of slides, and what's just hype. That's the whole mission.

How we evaluate

  • We read spec sheets, user reports, and forum discussions across the restoration communities.
  • We weigh price against real-world output quality for each use case.
  • We look for hardware and software that balances capability with genuine usability.
  • We track vendor reliability, support responsiveness, and update history over time.
  • We consider the full workflow — capture, correction, export — not just glossy features.
